THE DRILLER'S CHOICE

Close Relationships Make Good business Sense – C.S. Garber & Sons and Mincon Rockdrills

An Interview with Dennis Stoudt, President of C.S. Garber & Sons, Boyertown, Pennsylvania by Michael Cowell of Mincon Rockdrills.

C.S. Garber & Sons Inc. was founded in 1929 as a single drill company in the waterwell industry.  The company was family owned until 1980 and was again sold on January 7th, 2000 to three employees who currently manage the corporation.  Dennis says “the company owns and maintains twelve air rotary drills and eighty five support vehicles for the operation of our full service blasthole, well drilling, pump and water conditioning installations and service crews and employs forty two people”.  Dennis himself has been with C.S. Garber & Sons for close to forty years joining the company in 1969.

The fleet of drill rigs consists of eight T4BH rigs, two T4W rigs and two Gill-Rock Beatle rigs.  Ten of the rigs are equipped with 1070 cfm / 350 psi compressors and the other two have 1000 cfm / 350 psi compressors. With approximately 85 percent of the drilling being blasthole Dennis understands the need to ensure that the equipment they use is the very best for their operations.  “We were introduced to Mincon down the hole hammers in 2002 and decided to try a few of their hammers.  We discovered over a period of time that these hammers were quite productive and extremely reliable.  After five and a half years we are almost exclusively using Mincon hammers in six inch, five inch and eight inch sizes.”

Dennis has been very happy with the Mincon hammers and sees the success in four main areas.  He says “first, reliability, Mincon hammers hold air pressure throughout the life of the tool.  Internal parts of the hammers are long lasting and trouble free.  This eliminates downtime, cost of replacement parts and labor rebuilding hammers.  Second, production speed, Mincon hammers rival competing hammers in ft/hr. drilling speed and backed up with number one reliability, they surpass their rivals without any question.  Third, Price, Mincon hammers are reasonably priced and add number one reliability and two production speed you have an effective tool for down the hole drilling.  Finally, the service that Mincon Sales and Service Reps have given C.S. Garber & Sons, Inc. is the best I have ever been involved with in the industry and in turn allows C.S. Garber to provide fast and efficient service to it’s customers who also deserves the best service possible.”

Dennis feels strongly about the need to have solid relationships with their vendors and says “C.S. Garber & Sons has always and will continue in the future to be loyal to the vendors who service C.S.G in a manner which is favorable and equitable to both C.S.G and the vendor.” He finishes up by saying that “Mincon down the hole hammers have proven to be an additional asset to C.S. Garber & Sons and we expect to keep using their products in the future.”Mincon Rockdrills would like to sincerely thank Dennis Stoudt for giving up his valuable time to speak with us about his experiences with Mincon.  We truly appreciate having C.S. Garber as a valued customer and look forward to continuing the close relationship that has grown over the past number of years.
