THE DRILLER'S CHOICE

Mincon Peru empowers local drillers

Mincon has earned a reputation as The Driller’s Choice thanks to its comprehensive range of hard-rock drilling solutions, which it supplies to markets across the world. However, Mincon’s rock drilling expertise isn’t just in the design and manufacturing of its class-leading tools.

Each of our regional customer service centres has highly experienced mining and drilling engineers, who are experts in their field. They engage with customers to establish their needs, develop solutions, and ensure productivity remains high at drilling operations. This includes providing crucial training to drilling staff.

The team at Mincon Peru recently did just that, when it hosted a training seminar for the drilling operators and supervisor engineers from specialised drilling contractor MUR WY, at its operations in Antamina, Peru.

Jean Paul Droguett, General Manager, Mincon Peru, said:

“We supply the best drilling components in the world, designed to be efficient and durable, so it only makes sense that we educate our customer and end-users to help them get the most out of the equipment. Our successful training seminar with MUR WY is an example of our dedication to customer service and building Mincon’s reputation as The Driller’s Choice.”

The training seminar was presented to familiar the MUR WY team with Mincon’s MP80 DTH hammer and QL-80 drill bits, fitted to a DML rig using a high-pressure compressor, as well as Mincon’s 97/8” rotary bits on a Pit Viper PV275 drill rig. The training topics covered all aspects of DTH drilling, including design, thermodynamic cycle of air, frequency and impact energy. Drillers were also taught how to select the correct hammer according based on lithology. Mincon’s engineers also explained the importance of external parameters that influence drilling performance, such as annular flushing velocity, hammer maintenance, compressor capacity, and altitude correction factor.

The latter has become a focus in Peru where the average altitude is around 1,550 metres above sea level, with some mines lying even higher. Using Mincon’s class-leading DTH solutions, customers have recorded 30% higher penetration rates than conventional solutions. With a high-frequency, air-efficient design, Mincon’s hammers have been designed to deliver superior performance, thus reducing fuel consumption and drilling costs.

Mincon Peru is one of 15 regional offices servicing Mincon customers across five continents. These customer service centres deliver Mincon’s comprehensive range of world-class drill-string consumables including down-the-hole (DTH) hammers, DTH drill bits, rotary drill bits, drill pipes, horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and geotechnical drilling solutions.
